The Outer Banks of North Carolina Workshop - April 6 - 9,
This workshop takes place on the beautiful Outer Banks Islands of North
Carolina - a narrow and scenic strip of land on the Atlantic Coast. Our
main area of operation will stretch from the northern tip of the Outer Banks
where we plan to photograph the Currituck Lighthouse to the southern reaches of the
main island and the Hatteras Lighthouse - one of the most famous and
recognizable lighthouses on the East Coast. We'll also visit Manteo, NC on
Roanoke Island. You can click on the Outer Banks
to see a sampling of the scenes/sights you can expect to
see and photograph on this workshop. Our group size will be limited to 15 participants
and we will have two co-leaders to ensure that you get plenty
of 1-on-1 time.
The workshop fee is
with 1/2 of the tuition due by
60 days before the beginning date
and the balance due by 30 days before that date. Please see the
Workshop Overview page and
F.A.Q. page for important workshop details including my refund policy.
You will find a listing of the forms that must be completed and other detailed
information located in the PDF Gallery.

What to Expect
Weather on the Outer Banks is predictably unpredictable. But,
there is hardly anything more photographically bland than a cloudless sky.
Weather could be cool and you can normally expect a breeze. As the date
for this workshop approaches, I'll try to get some updated information to help in
the final preparations. Or, start your learning early and research
conditions on the Internet.
Our main photographic objectives on this workshop include sunrise and sunset
with particular emphasis on including objects other than sky and ocean in the
composition. As usual we will start early and end late. You simply
can't adequately shoot a sunrise or capture the beauty of a sunset if you aren't
on location early and prepared to stay until after the sun has fully set.
Conditions change quickly; and you will never get the perfect shot unless you
have scouted and setup for the shot and arrived before the event you want to
capture before the ideal moment occurs.
Expect to see several of the most famous East Coast lighthouses, fishing piers,
seascapes, and other notable scenes. We will see wildlife - large and
small - but principally sea and wading birds. We may also see windsurfers
skim across the water in the bay with brightly colored sails. The biggest
hill on the island is Kill Devil Hill where the infamous first flight occurred
with Wilbur and Orville Wright, not exactly a mountain but often covered with
people and hang gliders.
